The current DARA Advanced Training students in the UK gathered at Goonhilly Earth Station in Cornwall on 17-18 October 2018. During the two-day meeting they each presented the work they are doing during their Masters or PhD research projects with the aim of building links between the African students both now and when they return. They also toured the extensive facilities at Goonhilly, including the three large dishes that are being refurbished; one for radio astronomy, one for both radio astronomy and satellite communications and one as the world’s first private Deep Space Network dish. CEO Ian Jones also talked to the students about fundamentals behind space communications and the synergies with radio astronomy.
