The 2019 DARA Advanced Student event was organised by the University of Leeds and hosted at Goonhilly Earth Station in Cornwall, 11-12 December 2019.  A total of twenty DARA and DARA Big Data related students attended this two-day meeting.  With the aim of building links between the African students both now and when they return to Africa, each student presented their research projects, had ample networking opportunities and lots of fun along the way. They also toured the extensive facilities at Goonhilly, including the three large dishes that are being refurbished; one for radio astronomy, one for both radio astronomy and satellite communications and one as the world’s first private Deep Space Network dish. CEO Ian Jones also talked to the students about fundamentals behind space communications and the synergies with radio astronomy.
